Waiting For Spring

On this March day
Waiting for this windy March
To usher in spring
With the imminent arrival of spring
I am constantly looking for its signs
Like the robin or the black bird
The pussy willow to bloom
Watching for the crocus to spring forth
And the daffodils to blossom
And maybe a crocker will sing his song
My feet ache to be shed of shoes
And this winter coat I wish to lose
I can't wait till that glorious day
And the sun's warmth chases winter away
And I can once again set beneath the tree
Watching shadows play upon the yard
And feel the evening breeze upon my skin
And smell the scent of lilacs
Being carried upon the breeze
But for now I wait patiently
For the sounds of spring.
