Reprieve

Orange eyes surrounded by orangey-white fur
looking up trustingly
as I drive to his final destination.

The street signs whiz by me as he crawls
on to my lap
purring,
rubbing against me
with unconditional love.

I stop the car for we have arrived.
An innocence in his little eyes tugs at my soul
as I start the car and drive home.
